Chandan Prasad, PhD

Professor Chandan Prasad graduated from Louisiana State University in 1970 with a PhD in Microbiology/Biochemistry. After 8 years at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD as Fogerty Fellow and Senior Staff Fellow, he returned to New Orleans to join the faculty of LSU School of Medicine where he served as Professor (Medicine & Neuroscience) and Vice Chairman (Research) in the Department of Medicine until 2006. Since 2006, he has served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences at Texas Woman's University in Denton-Houston, Texas. The current focus of Dr. Prasad's research is on the role of dietary supplements in obesity, diabetes and heart diseases. He has authored over 200 papers in the area of appetite regulation, obesity, and nutrition. He holds three US and International patents for treatment of obesity and alcoholism. He serves as Editor-in-Chief of "Nutritional Neuroscience" and Editor-in-Chief of "Current Topics in Nutraceutical Research". He also serves on the editorial board of many journals. He is married to Shail Gupta, MA and has three sons - Anand Prasad, BS, MD, Amit Prasad, BS, MD and Anoop Prasad, BS, JD.
